I grew up with retro cars and with that also came the pin up girls aesthetic. I was aware of these posters and magazines since I was young, this has helped fortify an image into my brain on what a woman should look like, they should be a 'domesticate' women who is 'overly sexual' and skinny.
With this project I wanted to change that narrative. I wanted to put a modern twist on these dated ideals. I am a plus sized lady, and I would like to see my body type in pin up/ boudoir work but also see women not be overly sexualised in those images. I tried to keep a tasteful balance between confident and sexy. This project was liberating and fun to do. I was allowed to explore creative routes and allow myself to be seen in a different light.
I hope for this work to help other plus size women in seeing ourselves in a different way.
